Service Animals in the Workplace
This course provides an overview of the legal protections afforded employees with service animals under the ADA/state laws and the impacts of introducing such animals to the workplace. We dynamically address such questions as: What is a service animal under relevant state and federal laws? What are an employee’s rights and responsibilities regarding service animals in the workplace? When are service animals appropriate for work and what are an employer’s obligations regarding service animals?
The course stresses the types of interactive process triggers and requests your management team should be ready for relating to service animals, as well as best practices in balancing a service animal accommodation with undue hardship and direct threat analysis. In addition, communication best practices are emphasized when interacting with individuals who request the use of service animals. This course also addresses how to handle employee complaints about animals or disruptive animals and, finally, documentation best practices are introduced and practiced.
